A multi-purpose instrument

The reason Biovisor was founded was that we wanted to solve problems in healthcare through creative thinking. Our first medical device was a digital video-otoscope. A product that we have now developed to be able to use for multiple types of examinations. For example, in the throat, nose, and for photographing skin changes.

When Dr. Andreas Bengtsson completed a number of improvements for care of the elderly, he got the idea to start a solution-oriented, medical technology company. The first product we developed was a digital video-otoscope.
– Doctors who do rounds in nursing homes examining elderly people with multiple issues rarely have the time or opportunity to investigate a blockage of wax in a patient's ear. It is at the bottom of the list of priorities. This is a problem because wax plugs can cause hearing loss, dizziness and reduced quality of life, among other things.

Our video-otoscope allows care personnel to easily film or take a picture to send to a doctor for assessment.
– It has also been shown that the video-otoscope works well on children because the doctor does not need to be as close as possible, which can be scary for children.

Multiple functions in the same instrument

We quickly discovered that the otoscope can be used for several types of examinations. By removing the camera and attaching a fiberscope, you can also film inside the nose and throat.
– We were thinking, for example, of patients in stroke wards with swallowing difficulties. The video-otoscope makes it easy to see if something is stuck in the throat, thus preventing respiratory blockages and chemical pneumonia that can occur if food remains end up in the lungs.

It can also examine skin changes

We are now working to develop a solution that easily captures and photograph changes in skin.
– It's a fun process. We like to think creatively and challenge traditional care methods.

Andreas says that the digital video-otoscope also leads to increased patient participation.

– You can easily view images of the inside of your ear, nose or throat. It is also easier for doctors to make assessments when they see images instead of having the problem described in words.
